Prayer is the true medicine

“Prayer is the true medicine for our suffering. In prayer, we too can feel God’s presence. The tenderness of his gaze comforts us; the power of his word supports us and gives us hope.”  — Pope Francis

Reflection: Imagine for a moment you are looking at all of the things you do in your spiritual life as the contents of a medicine cabinet. What kinds of “medicine” do you see there to give relief for dis-ease in the soul? Which forms of prayer take up the most space in the cabinet? Are there any spiritual practices that are “out of date” in that they don’t seem to bring you relief or closer to God? Is there any devotion you might be “overdosing” on as a way to avoid a persistent issue or change you think may be painful?
